The Villa Viva guesthouse, hub and networking space is the latest addition to the family of Viva con Agua, which means “Life with Water” in Spanish. It operates as a social business, using profits to fund Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) & Community Development Projects in South Africa.

The Villa Viva guesthouse was launched on 7 October in The Mother City.

Villa Viva Cape Town is located in the heart of the Mother City, right next to the beautiful historic district of BoKaap and just a stroll away from buzzing Kloof Street. With a direct view of Table Mountain and Lions Head, Villa Viva is the perfect starting point for a variety of excursions around the Mother City.

It consists of four heritage listed buildings with historical architecture and modern elements, giving the feeling of being in a small village in the middle of the city centre. It features 31 individually designed rooms in various sizes and different ambiences which are named after famous artists, freedom fighters, activists and places in Africa.

Financed by a committed group of social investors, the main purpose of Villa Viva Guesthouse is to be a place of togetherness with the vision: “WATER FOR ALL – ALL FOR WATER!”

Viva con Agua South Africa (VcA SA), a registered NPO, also operates from the Villa Viva. It is part of a global team working towards the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 which is to ensure that everyone, everywhere has access to safe water and sanitation.

The Viva movement has grown into a global network of over 15 000 volunteers. The SA non-profit organisation is an open network of activists bringing together people and harnessing their creativity for collective action to bring about positive change so that everyone, everywhere in South Africa has access to safe and affordable drinking water, sanitation and hygiene.

The NPO collaborates with partners, service providers, local communities, artists, musicians. Its location at Villa Viva team makes this a unique place and provides guests a way to make a direct connection with their meaningful work.

“When guests stay at the Villa Viva, they do good while they sleep. Your stay finances WASH projects in South Africa,” explains Ajay Paul, co-founder of VcA SA.

Viva con Agua, which is the brainchild of former German soccer footballer, Benjamin Adrion, uses the universal languages of music, sports and art to bring about individual and collective changes in attitude and awareness towards water as a human right.

One of Viva con Agua South Africa’s programs is located in Bulungula, Elliotdale District in the Eastern Cape. Water and sanitation infrastructure at 50 schools is being improved and learners are encouraged to adopt safe hygiene practices, for example, washing their hands after going to the toilet or eating food. Disease transmitted through dirty water and the lack of handwashing is the main cause of illness among children leading to absence from school contributing to poor educational outcomes. More details about the project can be found on their website www.vivaconagua.org.za.
