The daunting task of deciding on a career path was made easier for 360 learners from six schools in Ekurhuleni who attended a Career Expo at Carnival City Casino on June 12.

Grade 12 learners from Nigel Secondary, Brakpan High, Dapark Secondary, Tlakola Secondary, Geluksdal and N.N Ndebele Secondary have a crucial task ahead of them making decisions that will influence what they will be able to study at the tertiary level. “Carnival City was glad to provide a venue once again and facilitate this important day, spoke about the various opportunities available within the industry and encouraged the students to explore diverse career paths” said Bryan O’Connor, Carnival City’s General Manager.

Faciliated by the Gauteng Gambling Board, the list of 18 exhibitors included several universities, the South African Police Service, tourism and hospitality industry representatives and the National Youth Development Agency.

Motivational speaker Lerato Masile addressed the learners, advising them to love themselves, affirm their beauty, embrace confidence, study hard to shape their future. She emphasized the importance of self-belief and determination in achieving one’s goals and stresses the importance of hard work, self-belief in shaping their futures.

Karabo Mbele, Gauteng Gaming Board’s CEO provided advice to the learners, “You are the leaders of tomorrow, and your credentials are what sets you apart – so constantly work on yourself and building these creds.”

The Sci Com Foundation, in collaboration with Carnival City offers extra lessons in English, Math, and Physical Science, to learners from Brakpan, Tsakane, Kwa Thema and Wattville to help them achieve better academic results. “Sci-Com Foundation’s Career Planning Programme, aims to help learners make informed decisions about suitable career paths based on their abilities, interests, and personalities,” said Lucky Nkopane (Principal of Brakpan High School).
