Zero2Five is seeking a Project Co-Ordinator with health or social science background to join the project in Bizana, Alfred Nzo District, Eastern Cape.

Job Title:  Project Co-Ordinator (Health and Nutrition Programme: Khula Nathi Project)

Fixed Term:  12 months with annual renewal subject to funding, commencing 01.02.2023

Reports to: Zero2Five Nutrition Project Manager

Base: Bizana, Alfred Nzo District

Salary: R 16 000 CTC

Since early 2019, Zero2Five in partnership with Impande have been working with Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres in the Eastern Cape, supporting centres to register with the Department of Social Development, providing training and resources to the ECD practitioners as well as nutritional support to the children.

The Khula Nathi project will expand on this work and the project aims to strengthen the bi-directional referral of children from Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres to health facilities by incorporating nutrition surveillance into the basic package of services offered to ECD practitioners. The primary goal of Khula Nathi is to contribute to a reduction in the prevalence of morbidity and mortality among children under the age of five.

The Project Co-Ordinator will be responsible for:

  • Engagement with various stakeholders, including department of health clinic committees, ECD practitioners, CHWs.
  • Project preparation, launch and management.
  • Report information back to stakeholders.
  • Facilitate bi-monthly workshops between stakeholders.
  • Facilitate referrals from ECD centres to health facilities.
  • Facilitate inter-departmental District meetings to improve child services.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant health, nutrition, social sciences or related field.
  • At least 5 years of work experience.
  • Experience in child health programmes.
  • Interpersonal skills to establish trusting relationships with stakeholders in a participatory manner.
  • An ability to work effectively within and across teams.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Very organised.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve.
  • Flexible and adaptable to adjust programme to community’s needs.
  • Working knowledge of informed consent.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
  • isiXhosa and English fluent.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Confident in using Smartphone.
  • Passion for the well-being of others, especially children.
  • Experience with peadiatric populations and their families is an advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of health promotion, behaviour change and nutrition would be an advantage.
  • Dedicated and motivated to make a difference in the community.
